MLS ROUNDUP | Saturday's games

MetroStars 1, Crew 0, OT
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- John Wolyniec scored in the 99th minute. Wolyniec, set up 6 feet in front of the Crew's goal, and converted a free kick from midfield by Amado Guevara nine minutes into overtime. The win was the second in four games for the MetroStars who solidified their second place position in the Eastern Conference of the MLS. The Crew lost for the first time in five contests (3-1-1). Columbus had won its previous six road games at Giants Stadium. Guevara had a chance to end it three minutes into overtime with a penalty kick, but goalkeeper Jon Busch just got a hand on the ball. The MetroStars pressed the attack as time wound down in regulation. Guevara had a good scoring chance in the 67th minute but lifted the ball over the net, and Clint Mathis followed with another opportunity about three minutes later. Eddie Gaven kicked the ball over the net in extra time. Both teams had goals nullified by offside calls late in the scoreless first half: Ross Paule of Columbus in the 37th minute and Mathis in the 38th minute. The MetroStars outshot the Crew 11-3 in the first half. Andrzej Juskowiak made his debut with the MetroStars in the 51st minute. Juskowiak is a Polish National Team forward who joined the team as a Discovery Player and as a replacement for Bolivian forward Jaime Moreno, who had season-ending back surgery on Sept. 2.
Dallas 2, Chicago 0
SOUTHLAKE, Texas -- Toni Nhleko scored his first career goal and had an assist in the debut of interim head coach Colin Clarke. Dallas (5-16-4) snapped a four-game losing streak and held the Fire (12-6-7) to only four shots on goal in goalkeeper Jeff Cassar's second shutout of the season. Clarke was promoted to interim head coach following the firing of Mike Jeffries earlier this week. Nhleko scored in the seventh minute. He got the ball after Fire goalie Zach Thornton deflected a shot by Eddie Johnson, then fired the ball into the center of an open net. Johnson scored his third goal of the season in the 47th minute when he took a pass from Ali Curtis and knocked the ball into the right corner of the goal. Nhleko lofted a pass to Curtis, who crossed a pass to an open Johnson. The Fire's best chances to score came in the 35th minute when Logan Pause's shot sailed a few feet wide left of an open Dallas goal, and in the 86th minute when Kelly Gray's shot off a free kick hit the crossbar.
San Jose 4, Kansas City 1
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Landon Donovan scored three goals as San Jose stretched Kansas City's winless streak to nine games. Donovan, last year's U.S. soccer player of the year, scored one goal in the first half and two in the second, sandwiched around a goal by defender Eddie Robinson for Western Conference-leading San Jose (13-5-7). It was the Earthquakes team-record seventh road win of the season. The Wizards (7-10-8) narrowed the gap to 2-1 midway through the second half on a goal by Davy Arnaud. The Wizards are 0-7-2 over their last nine, the longest winless streak in club history.
