Upcoming events, starting today, at McConnell's Mill and Moraine state parks near Portersville, Pa.
McCONNELL'S MILL
"Edible Plants": A naturalist will be on hand beginning at 1:30 p.m. today in the Mill courtyard to discuss what types of plants are safe to eat, as well as how to harvest and prepare them. A meal made from edible plants will be available.
"11th McConnell's Mill Heritage Festival": This two-day event is set up to celebrate the years the Old Mill was in operation -- from 1852 to 1928. Activities will include musical entertainment, games and crafts, sack races and a cakewalk. Food vendors, artisans and crafters also will be on hand. The festival is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. next Sunday in the Kildoo picnic area.
The park has two half-hour corn-grinding demonstrations at 1 and 3 p.m., as well as two 45-minute Grist Mill tours at 2 and 4 p.m. Both events are on Saturdays and Sundays and are in the Old Mill.

MORAINE
Activities benefit the Moraine Preservation Fund.
Boat cruises on the park's Lake Arthur start Saturday and continue every Saturday and Sunday in October. The fall foliage cruises go out at noon, 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. each day. The cost is $5.25 for adults and $2.50 for kids. Call (724) 368-9185 for reservations.
A fall dinner cruise will be aboard the Nautical Nature at Lake Arthur at 5 p.m. Saturday. The dinner is buffet-style and catered by Fairground Market. Cost is $19.25 for adults and $13.50 for kids. Call (724) 368-9185 for reservations.
Presentations involving the preservation fund and Annie the Barn Owl are available for civic groups, organizations or schools. The presentation cost is a $50 donation or a commitment to raise mice for the Barn Owl Reintroduction Program.
