Muskie stocking planned
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife reports that more than 16,000 muskellunge fingerlings will be stocked into eight lakes across Ohio this fall.
State fisheries biologists willstock the 8- to 12-inch fingerlings into Alum Creek, Caesar Creek, Clear Fork, Cowan, Leesville, Piedmont, Salt Fork, and West Branch lakes this month and in October.
There will also be two muskie-related educational programs. The first will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Clear Fork Reservoir's new boat ramp. The reservoir is near Mansfield. The second is Oct. 3 at 12:30 p.m. at Leesville Lake's Camp Muskingum in Carroll County.
Trout stocking set
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will stock 143 bodies of water in 60 counties as part of the 2003 Fall Trout Stocking Program. The PFBC will release 110,100 legal-sized trout to provide anglers with expanded fishing opportunities during the autumn months.
The stockings will be during the weeks of Sept. 29, Oct. 6 and 13. The PFBC intends to stock 86 river and stream sections as well as 57 lakes.
A total of 66,755 rainbow trout make up the biggest portion of the stocked fish, with 31,870 brown trout and 12,475 brook trout rounding out the allotment.
MISCELLANEOUS
Audubon meeting
The Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley will hold its September meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Mahoning County Experimental Farm, state Route 46, Canfield.

Fall pheasant stocking
The Pennsylvania Game Commission will release 200,000 ring-necked pheasants for upcoming small game hunting seasons and 20,000 birds for the second-ever Youth Pheasant Hunt, Oct. 11 and 13.
The pheasant season runs Oct. 25 through Nov. 29. Pheasants will be stocked for four consecutive weeks starting the week of Oct. 20.
Youth waterfowl season
Pennsylvania junior hunting license holders age 12-15 will be provided with a special day of waterfowl hunting on Saturday. Federal regulations require hunters 16 and older buy a federal Duck Stamp.
The daily limit for the youth day will be consistent with the limit for the regular season: CANADA GEESE: South Atlantic Population Zone, two; North Atlantic Population Zone, five; Resident Population Zone, five; Pymatuning Zone, one; Southern James Bay Population Zone, five. ALL DUCKS (All Zones): six, which may not include: more than four mallards, including two hens; one black duck; one pintail; one mottled duck; one fulvous tree duck; two wood ducks; two redheads; one canvasback; four scoters; and three scaup. MERGANSERS (All Zones): five; but not more than one hooded merganser. coots (All Zones): 15. atlantic brant (All Zones): three. snow geese (All Zones): 15.

Workshops offered
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife will host five "Hooked On Fishing -- Not On Drugs" workshops this fall.
Training workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday in Akron; Oct. 1 in Findlay; Oct. 3 in Athens; and Oct. 8 in Columbus.
An Oct. 24 workshop in Springfield will be held at the ODNR Division of Watercraft district office at Buck Creek State Park.
Each workshop is limited to 25 people. Individuals interested in participating must register at least five days in advance.
