DISTRICT W. Branch falls, 23-20



BELOIT -- Matt Velain kicked a 32-yard field goal with 3:19 remaining Friday to help lift the Carrollton High football team over West Branch, 23-20.
The Warriors (2-3, 0-2 Northeastern Buckeye Conference) led 13-0 after one quarter but fell behind 20-13 in the third.
West Branch knotted the game at 20-all when J. R. Gibson ran for his second touchdown of the game.
Gibson rushed 11 times for 60 yards.
Bobby Swallow led the Warrior through the air, hitting on 15 of 28 passes for 194 yards.
Josh Venables caught five balls for 94 yards including a 48-yard TD aerial from Swallow.
Velain completed eight of 17 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns and ran 20 times for 111 yards for Carrollton (2-3, 1-1).
Beaver Local 43, Bellaire 0
LISBON -- Matt Vujaklya scored on a 5-yard run and he returned an intercepted pass 61 yards for another score to spark the Beavers (5-0).
The Beavers' Jake Robinson rushed for 138 yards on 12 carries, which included a TD run of 23 yards.
Teammate Josh Pastore rushed 15 times for 101 yards and he caught a 47-yard TD pass from Robinson.
The Beavers gained 369 yards rushing on 52 attempts and they were 1 of 4 for 47 passing.
The Big Red (4-1) were limited to minus four yards on the ground and 87 passing.

RAVENNA -- The Pirates (5-0, 3-0) scored in the first quarter and made the advantage hold up in the Portage County League game.
Waterloo is 2-3, 1-2.
