Man charged with DUIafter vehicle hits cruiser
HOWLAND -- A township police officer was treated for minor injuries after a vehicle struck his cruiser, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The patrol said Clark Terrill, 28, of Kinsman was driving north on state Route 46 around 1:05 a.m. today when his vehicle struck the cruiser, driven by Patrol Officer David Carr.
Terrill was arrested on a DUI charge. He is scheduled to appear in Warren Municipal Court later this week.
Carr was taken to a local hospital and released after treatment, according to Police Chief Paul Monroe.
Charge of obstruction
GIRARD -- Robert Thomas, 63, of Liberty pleaded innocent Tuesday in municipal court to a charge of obstructing official business.
Liberty Police arrested Thomas on Monday after he lay down in front of a township road department backhoe that a crew was using to clean out the ditch in front of his home at 320 Goldie Road.
Thomas said he thinks the work was doing more harm than good in correcting a draining problem.
No pretrial date was set by Magistrate Mark Finamore. Thomas is free on bond.
Liberty school boardOKs D.A.R.E. program
LIBERTY -- The school board approved using the D.A.R.E. program at W.S. Guy Middle School this year. The anti-drug program will cost the district $2,388.
Also Tuesday, the board hired Lisa Carr and Danielle DePasquale as intervention assistants for the school year at $12.17 per hour and Paula Blazinic on a one-year limited teaching contract at $29,044 for the year.
The board granted the following supplemental contracts: Linda Byers, newspaper adviser, $2,281; Joshua Hall, assistant volleyball coach, $1,425; James Rasile, student government adviser and senior class adviser, $12.32 per hour combined; Colleen Connolly, assistant seventh-grade basketball coach, $3,421; Larry Long, assistant basketball coach, $3,421; Marlene Strollo, drama club adviser, $1,710.
Volunteer coaches approved were Wendell Neal, bowling; Joseph Antenucci, volleyball; and Cathy Ballas, girls tennis.
Wetlands walk exploresHowland Wildlife Preserve
HOWLAND -- Local environmental educator Brice Harris will lead wetlands walks into the Howland Wildlife Preserve at 7 p.m. Thursday. Discussion will be on pond ecology, amphibian biology, flood plains, wildlife and wetlands.
This is the last wetland walk of the year. Participants can park and meet at Shepherd of the Valley on North River Road in Howland. Wear boots or walking shoes, light-colored clothing, long pants, long sleeves, sunscreen and mosquito repellent, and bring binoculars and field guides.
The walks are offered in conjunction with TAMPEEL, an environmental education program of the Trumbull County Educational Service Center that involves pupils from 17 Trumbull County school districts.
Family history seminar
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- A seminar on discovering and organizing family history will be offered by the Grove City Area Historical Society from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Penn Grove Hotel, East Pine Street.
Each participant will receive a tote bag filled with materials to help with research.
Topics include locating information and verifying data, tombstone geography, and research methods used at the Latter Day Saints Library in Slippery Rock.
The fee is $30 and includes breakfast and lunch.

Cooper's Lake reunion
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Thunder at Cooper's Lake Fall Reunion is set for Friday through Sunday at Cooper's Lake on Currie Road.
