HUBBARD -- Hubbard Township trustees will have two public hearings Sept. 29 in the township administration building. At 6 p.m., they'll discuss the application by Champion Molded Plastics of Hubbard Township for a tax abatement for a $1.6 million addition; at 7 p.m., the topic will be a zoning request for C & amp;C Towing of Hubbard Township to expand a storage facility.
KSUTC offers workshops
CHAMPION -- The Workforce Development and Continuing Studies Center at Kent State University's Trumbull Campus is offering two workshops next month. Long-term Care Insurance, 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 4, will cover what it is, how it works, and offer ideas to best protect your lifestyle and legacy. Preparing for the ACT, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 4-11, will assist in achieving better scores on the American College Test.
Literacy tutor training
WARREN -- A free, four-part literacy tutor training workshop is next month at the city schools. Sessions run from 5:15 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 14, 16, 21 and 23 in East Middle School on South Street Southeast. The workshop includes methods to enable volunteers to work with adult beginning readers and doesn't require teaching experience. At the end of the training, each qualified participant will be a certified literacy tutor.
Shenango River cleanup
SHARON, Pa. -- Shenango River Watchers will have its final cleanup day of 2003 at 9:30 a.m. Saturday under a blue tent in the Sharon City Centre parking lot off Water Avenue. The group runs several cleanup days along the Shenango River each summer. Lunch will be provided. All participants will get a Shenango River Watchers T-shirt. Missing man located
YOUNGSTOWN -- A man missing from an Austintown home since Monday was discovered around 9:49 a.m. Saturday on the West Side of Youngstown, Austintown police said. Further details were not available. Robert W. Sesser, 60, of North Meridian Road, disappeared after telling a neighbor that two women, who may have had car trouble, had flagged him down on Meridian Road.
Man injures elderly woman
YOUNGSTOWN -- An 89-year-old woman walking up the steps at St. Dominic Church on East Lucius Avenue at 7:30 a.m. Saturday was slammed into a wall by a man who demanded money, reports show. The elderly victim told police that the man grabbed her coat and pushed her into the wall when she explained that she was carrying no money.
The Marmion Avenue woman suffered a cut and lumps on her head. The suspect fled in an unknown direction.
