At its regular meeting Wednesday, Niles council:
Authorized the service director to advertise and accept proposals for the emergency replacement of a segment of the West Park Avenue sanitary sewer.Approved a contract between the city and Community Bus Service Inc. of Youngstown to operate the Niles-Trumbull Transit Service for $621,000 for one year.Passed first reading of an ordinance to increase sewer rates by $2 for residential customers, $6 for commercial businesses and $20 for industrial businesses. The increase will help pay for repairs and replacements to infrastructure throughout the city damaged by this summer's floods.Allowed the safety director to advertise for bids for a records management system, a computer-assisted dispatch system and a fingerprint system for the police department.Approved a 10-year, 75 percent tax abatement to Jet Stream International of Summit Street on real and personal taxes on a proposed $1.875 million expansion at the business. The issue will now go before the Trumbull County commissioners for approval.Entered into a mutual aid agreement with other communities in Trumbull County to provide emergency police protection in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code.
