Professionalism award
YOUNGSTOWN -- Atty. David C. Comstock Sr., a partner in the law firm Comstock, Springer and Wilson, was recently honored as the first recipient of the Mahoning County Bar Association's professionalism award.
The award is for the lawyer who best exemplifies the highest standards of competence, integrity and civility while serving his clients, the courts and the community.
Comstock, a native of North Tonawanda, N.Y., is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and Case Western Reserve School of Law.
He has been a past president of the county bar association, a member of the Ohio State Bar Board of Governors, has received a foundation award of merit for outstanding service as a bar foundation trustee, and has received national recognition as a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers.
For the past 10 years, Comstock has been recognized in the book "Best Lawyers of America." He is serving a three-year term on the board of commissioners on grievances and discipline for the Ohio Supreme Court.
Comstock has been active in several community events and recently co-chaired the committee to raise funds for the new Poland library. He is an elder at Poland Presbyterian Church.
Comstock lives in Poland with his wife, Marge. They have two sons and five grandchildren.
SCOUTS
2 get Eagle awards
Alex D. Gedra and Corey Sinn have received their Eagle Scout awards, Boy Scouting's highest honor. Ceremonies for them were at Ellsworth Fire Station.
Both have been members of Troop 71, which is sponsored by Ellsworth VFW Post 9571, since 1996.
Their scoutmasters are Lee Hawkins and Dave Kochert, and both are members of Berlin Center United Methodist Church. They also graduated from Western Reserve High School, Berlin Center, in June.
Gedra, 18, a son of Douglas and Martha Gedra of North Jackson, has been senior patrol leader and assistant patrol leader.
He received 21 merit badges and attended junior leader training. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Wapashuwi Lodge 56. He was salutatorian of his graduating class and is a freshman at Youngstown State University, where he is studying chemical engineering.
His Eagle service project was to secure donations for a 30-foot flagpole that was placed in front of Ellsworth Township Hall.
Sinn, 18, is the son of Tracy and Debbie Sinn of Berlin Center. He has been senior patrol leader, assistant patrol leader and historian. He earned 21 merit badges and the Arrow of Light from Pack 32. He attended junior leader training and was a member of the Brotherhood of Wapashuwi Lodge 56.
Sinn was valedictorian of his graduating class and is a freshman at the University of Akron, where he is studying psychology.
His Eagle service project was to restore the VFW Park on U.S. Route 224 in Ellsworth, which included the addition of a veterans memorial and beautifying the grounds.
DOCTORS
Earns osteopathic degree
Masury native Michele Tate received a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens.
The daughter of Edwin and Sheila Stigleman of Masury, Dr. Tate received a bachelor's degree in biology from Malone College in 1998.
