Company tells council plans for Walgreen's

SHARON, Pa. -- The city is getting a Walgreen's store.
Jeff Cossel of Greystone Group of Cleveland, the project developer, told city council Thursday that his company plans to put the store on the southeast corner of Stambaugh Avenue and East State Street.
There are several buildings there that will be razed, and Greystone asked the city to vacate an alley in the middle of the project site so the new building can be erected across it.
Councilmen Ray Fabian and Fred Hoffman said the project is a welcome addition to the city, and council voted to introduce an ordinance to vacate the alley.
The issue will have to go through the city planning commission before it comes back to council for final approval, Hoffman said.
Cossel said preliminary estimates show the new store will increase the total take in real estate taxes from that corner by $40,000, with that money going to the city, school district and county.
Greystone doesn't own the property yet but plans to complete acquisitions within three months, he said.
