Party for Tod patients

Party for Tod patients
YOUNGSTOWN -- Forum Health Tod Children's Hospital will have a party for Tod patients who have sickle cell anemia and cancer from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Northside Medical Center's education building. September marks National Childhood Cancer and Sickle Cell Awareness Month.
About 12,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed each year with cancer, the top disease killer in those age groups. Sickle cell anemia, an inherited blood disorder that can be passed from parent to child, causes irregularly shaped blood cells that cause pain, organ damage and anemia. One in 10 black Americans carry the sickle cell trait, which is not a disease but a carrier state, and one in 400 blacks has the disease.
