NILES -- Though the crime took place more than two months ago, federal agents will not give up the hunt.
H. John Lichtefeld, supervisory special agent with the Youngstown FBI office, said the department continues to track down leads in the July 2 robbery of National City Bank on South Main Street here.
"It's still an active investigation," Lichtefeld said.
Shortly before 9:30 that morning, authorities say a man walked into the downtown bank, presented a note to a teller and walked away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Lichtefeld said the FBI still is not releasing the amount of money taken.
Bank officials said no other customers were in the bank and no one was injured.
The man did not appear to have a weapon and made no threats to harm anyone, authorities said.
Description
The FBI says the suspect is a black man, 40 to 55, 6 feet tall with a thin build.
He either had a few days' beard growth or possibly acne scars and has black and gray dreadlocks. He was wearing a long blue coat with a hat or hood.
Authorities were not able to determine in which direction the man fled.
Reports said the man left through the rear door of the bank. No vehicle was seen.
Lichtefeld said the FBI and local police are willing to talk with anyone who may have information about the crime or the suspect.
