Christian school to begin construction of complex

YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Christian School will have a groundbreaking at 11 a.m. Saturday as the school starts construction of its new high school/gymnasium complex adjacent to the school, at 4401 Southern Blvd.
The school has raised more than $800,000 for the expansion project that will include 11 classrooms, high school science lab, chapel, band practice area, administrative offices and a 600-seat gym.
School officials expect construction will be complete by fall 2004.
"After many years of dreaming, praying and planning, we are thrilled that this is becoming a reality," said the Rev. Gary L. Johnston, school superintendent. "Thanks to the grace of God and the generosity of many friends and supporters, the blueprints have been finalized, and the digging of the foundation is ready to begin."
The school, established in 1975, offers a Christian-based education in grades one to 12.
