BOARDMAN Police locate woman and 2 daughters

The woman and children were not injured.
BOARDMAN -- Township police are breathing a little easier now that a missing family of three has been found.
Jerri Berger, 36, her daughter Brooke, 12, and her daughter Lindsay, 8, were located by detectives at an apartment in the 6000 block of Applecrest Court. Police say the family, which resides on Carter Circle, was located through a series of tips from the public.
Police say the woman and two children were not injured. The woman voluntarily left the residence with the children and stayed at one or more local motels before going to the apartment of someone she knew on Applecrest Court.
Police said Jerri Berger told them she was hiding because she felt she was in danger. Police said they know of no credible threat to Berger or her daughters.
Status
Police said Jerri Berger has been taken to Northside Medical Center for psychological evaluation. The children are expected to be placed in the custody of the Mahoning County Children Services Agency pending further investigation.
Police started their investigation when the two girls were marked truant from school after missing several days. Officers went to the family's apartment and determined that no one had been there for some time, but nothing else seemed to have been disturbed.
Police Chief Jeffrey Patterson said the family car was in the driveway when officers visited the home, and mail, including some checks, had not been picked up. Patterson said the department sent a police dog to the home.
Police have not said why the woman left home or why the two girls had not been attending school.
