Fire breaks out at closed motel

NORTH JACKSON -- The state fire marshal's office is investigating a fire that broke out Tuesday at the Red Carpet Inn, on Mahoning Avenue just west of the Ohio Turnpike.
Jackson Township Fire Chief Wayne McDougal said the fire broke out near the center of the closed motel about 5:15 p.m. Several drums at the scene with unknown contents were removed by a hazardous material team.
No one was injured and there is no estimate of damage.
The fire department is trying to determine the owner, who is believed to be in Cleveland.
The motel has been closed about five years, the chief said.
