Ex-deputy posts modified bond

YOUNGSTOWN -- Michael Terlecky, former deputy sheriff of Mahoning County, was released from the county jail Monday afternoon after posting a $10,000 cash bond.
Terlecky, who is known as "Beef," was being held on seven counts of drug trafficking, on which he was secretly indicted by a county grand jury earlier this month.
Authorities say Terlecky sold or tried to sell the painkiller OxyContin seven times between April 7 and Aug. 15.
Terlecky, 48, of Leffingwell Road, Canfield, had been held with bond set at $100,000 cash or surety. Judge James C. Evans of common pleas court denied a motion by defense attorney Don L. Hanni Jr. to lower the bond, but did agree Monday to modify it. Judge Evans permitted Terlecky to be released by posting 10 percent of the bond, or $10,000 cash.
Terlecky pleaded guilty in 1990 to taking mob bribes while a lieutenant in the sheriff's office. Hanni said Terlecky served about eight months in prison for the federal bribery charge.
