YMTA Music teachers association to celebrate 70th anniversary



YOUNGSTOWN -- The 70th anniversary of the Youngstown Music Teachers' Association will be celebrated when the group holds its first meeting of the season at 4 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Ursuline Center in Canfield.
To mark the occasion there will be a piano concert by Dr. Kenneth Burkey who will perform selections from Scarlatti, Mozart, Schumann, Brahms, Granados and Lecuona.
Burkey, who began his piano study at the age of five in Youngstown, is on the faculty of the Mary Pappert School of Music at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where he is chairman of the piano and performance departments, and director of undergraduate music studies.
The organization is dedicated to raising the standards of music teaching, exchanging ides and cultivating mutual relationships among members.
