Ohio Board of Regents picks YSU as site of this month's meetings

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ohio Board of Regents will meet Thursday at Youngstown State University, the first time in more than six years that the state higher education governing panel will convene in Youngstown.
The nine-member board, whose members are appointed by the governor, will conduct committee meetings in the morning with the regular full board meeting starting at 1:30 p.m. in the YSU Board of Trustees' meeting room in Tod Hall. The agenda includes comments to the board by YSU President David C. Sweet, Student Government President Emily Eckman and Student Trustee Matthew T. Pastier.
"The board attempts to conduct about a third of its meetings away from the agency offices at campuses and businesses around the state in order to provide an opportunity for members to get increased input on issues from campus and community representatives," said Jamie Abel, OBR assistant director of communications.
The board met at the G.E. Engine Plant in Cincinnati in July and will meet at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea in October. The last time OBR conducted a monthly meeting at YSU was in March 1997.
Chancellor Roderick G.W. Chu and members of the OBR staff also will attend the meeting in Youngstown. Thomas W. Noe, president of Vintage Coins & amp; Collectibles in Maumee, serves as board chairman. Bruce Beeghly, president of Altronic Inc. in Youngstown and a former YSU trustee, is on the board.
In addition to the nine governor-appointed members, the board also consists of two ex-officio members: state Sen. Robert A. Gardner of Madison and state Rep. Arlene Setzer of Vandalia.
