McDonald and Maplewood look to gain Suburban title



CANFIELD -- The McDonald High boys and the Maplewood girls will be the favorites in the Suburban League cross country races at the Canfield Fairgrounds Tuesday.
Regular-season boys champion McDonald will be challenged by 38 schools at 5:05 p.m..
Maplewood, the girls regular season champion, will get the event started at 4:30.
Middle school girls and boys 3000-meter runs are slated for 5:35 and 6:05, respectively.
Luke McCluggage of Jackson-Milton, the area's fastest 3.1-mile runner (16 minutes, 20 seconds), will get tested by McDonald's Joe Kunkel (16:22), South Range's Dan Nemergut (16:23) and McDonald's Jason Corman (16:35).
Four other athletes expected to make it a close run are Champion's Danny Haines (16:49); Maplewood's Chris Rupe, 16:49; McDonald's Andy Thornton (16:58) and Maplewood's Andy Morgan (16:59).
The girls race will feature Pymatuning Valley's Tracee Gruskiewicz (19:49), Boardman's Brittany Durkin (19:51), Poland's Colleen Moran (20:08), South Range's Andra Sanders (20:16) and Salem's Deirdre Clary (20:22).
Boardman's Jessie Moore (20:31) and Lisbon's Lindsay Brickner (20:48), along with Leetonia's Melissa DiPanfilo and Poland's Molly Noll should make it an interesting race to watch.
