PREP VOLLEYBALL Fitch sweeps two teams in triangular
Hubbard won the Thomas Worthington Classic for the second straight year.
AUSTINTOWN -- The Austintown Fitch High volleyball team swept two matches Saturday from Lakeview and Twinsburg.
Host Fitch defeated Lakeview 15-4, 15-4 as Maggie Case had nine points and two aces, six kills, four blocks and 14 digs.
Also for the Falcons, Rachel Terzak added six points, four blocks and a dig and Jessica Evans had five points, six kills, three blocks and four digs.
Lakeview (9-1) was led by Megan Taylor (six kills, six assists), Michelle Antonelli (six assists), Lindsay Whetzel (seven digs), Lauren McCumber (two blocks) and Whitney Keyser (three points).
Fitch 15-15, Twinsburg 7-7
AUSTINTOWN -- Case had 10 points and six aces, nine kills, five blocks and nine digs for the Falcons (6-4), while Terzak added seven points, four kills, five blocks and six digs. Stacie Mang contributed four points and two aces, two kills, 10 digs and 17 assists.
West Holmes 15-15, Salem 9-4
WEST HOLMES -- Salem's record went to 8-3 after the Quakers split two matches in the West Holmes Triangular.
Senior rightside hitter Lauren Teal had nine kills, three tips and three blocks; junior middle hitter Sarah Hamilton had one ace, three kills and one block and senior setter Jillian Barry had two aces and 14 assists.
Salem 7-15-15, Stow 15-3-4
WEST HOLMES -- Teal had 12 kills, four blocks and a tip; Hamilton had seven kills, five blocks and three tips and Barry had two tips and 21 assists.
Salem's earlier losses were to Poland and Canton GlenOak.
West Holmes' record after beating Salem was 7-1.
West Branch 15-11-15, Canfield 1-15-7
BELOIT -- Eve Woods had eight kills, five blocks and five points and Dena New had eight points, 18 assists and a dig for the Warriors in a triangular at West Branch.
Amanda Bennder added nine points, three kills and six blocks for the Warriors.
Stephanie Jarris had 12 kills, 10 points and two aces and Kelly Reese added 13 assists, four points and an ace for the Cardinals.
United 15-10-15, Canfield 7-15-11
BELOIT -- Ashley Bergman had six kills and four blocks, Krista Reeder had 12 digs and Catherine Jarrett added 10 assists for United.
Jarvis had eight kills, five points and an ace for Canfield, while Lindsay Owen had nine points, two aces and three kills and Nanna Frimpong had seven points and one ace.
West Branch 15-15, United 8-11
BELOIT -- Ashley Armstrong had three points, four kills, two blocks and five assists for the Warriors, while Benner had three points, six kills and three blocks and New added nine points and 12 assists.
Thomas Worthington Classic
COLUMBUS -- Hubbard defeated previously unbeaten Mogadore Field 15-10, 16-14 in the championship match of Saturday's eight-team Thomas Worthington Classic to repeat as tournament champions.
Hubbard also defeated Worthington Kilbourne, 16-14, 15-10, and Dublin Scioto, 15-10, 17-15.
Eagles senior Tracie Hassell was named tournament MVP, recording 23 points, 42 digs, 39 assists and 28 kills. Senior Diana Conzett had 22 kills, 18 digs and 11 points for Hubbard, while senior Felicia Resatar added 22 points, six aces, 10 digs and five kills.
Lordstown 15-15, Canton Heritage 8-8
CANTON -- In a triangular tournament, junior Emily Rech had six points; senior Janelle Beaver had six kills and six blocks; junior Samantha Kistler had five points, one ace, five kills and one block and Alycia Israel, a junior, had four points, 21 assist, two blocks and two digs.
Lordstown 15-15, Sebring 13-3
CANTON -- After winning its sixth straight match since losing to Jackson-Milton earlier in the season, Lordstown left the Heritage tournament with a 7-1 record. Samantha Kistler had seven points, nine digs, five kills and one block; and Amanda Kistler had six points, three aces, seven digs, four kills and two blocks.
