MLS ROUNDUP Noonan's two goals spark Revolution to 2-1- win
Goalie Adin Brown's great save helped New England beat the MetroStars.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Pat Noonan scored twice and goalkeeper Adin Brown made a spectacular second-half save as the New England Revolution defeated the MetroStars 2-1 on a rainy Saturday night.
Noonan put New England ahead in the 11th minute with a shot off the leg of MetroStars defender Steve Jolley. The former Indiana University star added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute after taking a nice pass from Jose Cancela on a counter attack.
After Noonan's early goal, Brown kept the Revolution ahead in the 64th minute by reaching back with his left hand to turn away a shot by Ricardo Clark that had deflected off a New England defender.
United 2, Earthquakes 1
WASHINGTON -- Ben Olsen's goal in the 81st minute gave D.C. a win over San Jose.
Olsen's shot from 22 yards out skipped along the turf and goalkeeper Pat Onstad was slow to react as the ball slipped inside the left post just beyond his reach.
The decisive goal came about a minute after Jamil Walker, a 65th-minute substitution for Dwayne De Rosario, tied the game for San Jose (12-5-7).
Playing in his 15th game this season, U.S. national team standout Earnie Stewart notched his first MLS goal for D.C. (9-8-6), which has won two straight and five of seven.
Columbus 3, Dallas 2
COLUMBUS -- Edson Buddle scored his second goal in the 81st minute and Brian McBride also scored as Columbus extended its unbeaten streak to four games with a win over Dallas.
Brian West sent a pass to the back post and Buddle volleyed a right-footed shot into the side netting to put Columbus up 3-2. Eric Denton also assisted on the play.
Buddle tied the score 1-all in the 28th minute off assists by Kyle Martino and Ross Paule.
West got his second assist of the game when he chipped a ball to McBride, who headed a shot from the penalty spot past D.J. Countess. McBride's eighth goal of the season gave the Crew a 2-1 lead in the 39th minute. Dallas tied it at 2 in the 55th minute on a goal by Eddie Johnson.
