DENISON UNIVERSITY, Granville
Two area first-year students were recently awarded scholarships. Both awards are renewable based on grade point average.
Nimarta Singh, daughter of Dr. Parduman and Paula Singh of Canfield, received a Parajon Scholarship, a half-tuition award given to students of Asian, Hispanic or American Indian heritage based on academics, extracurricular activities, an essay and recommendations. She is a 2003 Western Reserve Academy graduate.
Jessica West, daughter of Georgia West of Youngstown and a 2003 Culver Girls Academy graduate, received a Florida Fisher Scholarship, given to black female students based on academics and extracurricular achievements.
UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH MEDICAL CENTER HORIZON, Greenville and Farrell
UPMC Horizon Medical Staff Scholarship Trustees have awarded four scholarships to medical students from Mercer County. Funding comes from UPMC Horizon medical staff.
Recipients are: Jessica L. DeAngelis, a fourth-year medical student at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, a daughter of Dr. James and Margaret DeAngelis of Hermitage, a 1998 biology graduate of Grove City College and a 1995 graduate of Kennedy Catholic High School; Nathan C. DeAngelis, a second-year medical student at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, a son Dr. James and Margaret DeAngelis of Hermitage, a 2002 biology graduate of St. Vincent College and a 1998 graduate of Kennedy Catholic High School; William F. DeWolf, a fourth-year medical student at Drexel University College of Medicine, a son of William and Marie DeWolf of Greenville, a 1998 pre-med graduate of Penn State University and a 1994 graduate of Greenville High School; and David R. Shellenbarger, a second-year medical student at Temple University School of Medicine, the husband of Jennifer (Sunderlin) Shellenbarger and son of Susan and James Richards of Greenville, a 2000 biology graduate of Allegheny College and a 1996 graduate of Reynolds High School.
OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY, Columbus
Recent master's degree graduate Lisa A. Drabison of Austintown received the $5,000 Howard Seeley Scholarship, which she used to complete her studies. She will teach at South Kingston High School in Rhode Island.
Kevin T. Lloyd of Austintown, a recent natural resources graduate, earned a research scholarship to study at the University of Rhode Island.
