YOUNGSTOWN -- Registration for the first semester of the Youngstown City Schools Night School program runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday in Room 210 at the Choffin Career and Technical Center, 200 E. Wood St. Classes begin Sept. 22. The program helps students and adults earn their high school diplomas. Written permission of the student's home school is required to register. To earn a diploma, students must pass state-mandated proficiency tests and required courses and credits.
Youngstown residents pay a tuition of $145 for full-credit classes and $85 for semester subjects. Nonresident tuition is $155 for full-credit courses and $90 for semester subjects. Man shot in legs, arm
YOUNGSTOWN -- A city man has been hospitalized after being shot three times, in both legs and the left arm. Police found Edward Washington, 42, at the intersection of Himrod and Fruit streets at 4:15 a.m. Saturday. Police said a second man, Jose Rivera, 32, of North Lane Avenue was standing over him with a gun. Rivera said, "I shot him. He was breaking into my house," according to police. Police arrested Rivera and charged him with felonious assault. Washington, whose address was not available from police, was in stable condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center on Saturday night; Rivera was in Mahoning County Jail.
Historical Society to meet
LIBERTY -- The public is invited to the annual meeting of the Erie-Lackawanna Historical Society on Friday and Saturday at the Holiday Inn-Metroplex. The society was founded to preserve the railroad's documents. Presentations will include such subjects as company history, model trains and what it was like to work for the company.
