PA. PARKS McConnell's Mill and Moraine
A sleepover, an exhibit and various nature programs are on tap at McConnell's Mill and Moraine state parks, near Portersville, Pa.
MCCONNELL'S MILL
& quot;ID Me! & quot;: A naturalist will be on hand to help people discover ways to identify trees in the area. Parents are encouraged to bring their children and a list of leaves to identify. The program is from 2 to 3 p.m. today in the Hell's Hollow parking lot.
& quot;Fall Harvest Sleepover & quot;: This event will start at 7 p.m. Friday in the Old Mill. Participants should bring a sleeping bag and pad, a blanket, a flashlight, a snack, breakfast items and a table setting. Space is limited to the first 30 people, and an adult must accompany a child under 12. To reserve a space, call Jackie Kline at (724) 368-9320.
On Saturdays and Sundays, the park offers two half-hour corn-grinding demonstrations beginning at 1 and 3 p.m., as well as two 45-minute Grist Mill tours that start at 2 and 4 p.m. Both are in the Old Mill.
Moraine
& quot;Pennsylvania Black Bears & quot;: A naturalist will discuss ways to be safe while around these animals and how to keep them from coming into your home. Meet at 6 p.m. Friday at Pavilion No. 7 on the North Shore at McDanel's Launch.
& quot;Muddy Creek Oil Well Exhibit & quot;: People will be able to see various demonstrations and the antique oil well restoration project at the Muddy Creek Oil Field site. Take old U.S. Route 422 west from the Prospect interchange and go about a half-mile beyond the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources district office and boat launch parking lot. The program is free and is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and next Sunday.
