OHIO STATE NOTEBOOK From The 'Shoe

Injury: North Carolina State wide receiver Sterling Hicks left the game after straining his knee on a first-quarter pass completion that lost 2 yards.
ACC record: Ohio State's record against Atlantic Coast Conference teams is 8-6. The last time the Buckeyes played an ACC team was in 1982 against Florida State (a 34-17 loss in Columbus). Florida State was an independent then.
ACC's best: North Carolina State quarterback Philip Rivers broke three Atlantic Coast Conference records: career passing yards, career pass completions and career touchdown responsibility. Florida State's Chris Weinke had 9,839 yards (Rivers has 10,061). His 36 completions give him 18 more than Duke's Ben Bennett's 820. And his four touchdown tosses gives him 85, two more than Weinke, Virginia's Shawn Moore and Georgia Tech's Joe Hamilton had.
Official's help: Umpire George Burton gave Ohio State a boost during its first touchdown. Quarterback Craig Krenzel hit wide receiver Michael Jenkins with a toss over the middle about 5 yards down-field. Cornerback Gregory Golden's pursuit of Jenkins ended when he slammed into the umpire, springing Jenkins for a 44-yard touchdown.
Oops: On the ensuing kickoff, Wolfpack return-men Tramain Hall and Richard Washington collided as the ball descended. The football deflected off Washington's helmet and Will Allen scooped it up and fell at the N.C. State 4. Two plays later, Lydell Ross bulldozed his way into the end zone for a 14-0 lead.
Krenzel: Craig Krenzel's record as starting quarterback is 18-1, including two overtime games. His four touchdown passes were a career best. Senior tight end Ben Hartsock caught a career-high seven passes for 65 yards.
New 13: With sophomore running back Maurice Clarett suspended for the season, cornerback Harlen Jacobs wore uniform number 13.
Hall of Fame weekend: At halftime, Ohio State honored 11 new members of the university's Hall of Fame. The late Korey Stringer, a Warren native who died two summers ago in the Minnesota Vikings training camp, was among the honorees. Other football players are: Tom Matte, who played for the Baltimore Colts; Cris Carter, a wide receiver with the Philadelphia Eagles, Vikings and Miami Dolphins; and Jack Lininger. The other inductees and their sports were: Skip Van Bourgondien, lacrosse; Nick Wasylik, football, basketball and baseball; Britta Eickhoff, field hockey; Becky Jasontek, synchronized swimming; Emily Marsh, synchronized swimming; Julie Sommers, gymnastics; and Jodie Stranges, women's soccer.
