PREP VOLLEYBALL Spartans win first in Federal; Poland remains unbeaten
Springfield and Lakeview kept their league slates clean with impressive wins.
BOARDMAN -- Jesse Morris recorded 10 points and 11 kills Thursday as the Boardman High volleyball team posted its first Federal League win, defeating Uniontown Lake 15-3, 15-12.
Both teams are 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the Federal League.
Ali Sfara collected seven kills and three blocks while Courtney Masternick tacked on eight points and three digs for the Spartans.
Poland 15-15, Canfield 8-3
POLAND -- Steffi Graf led the Bulldogs (6-0, 4-0 Metro Athletic Conference) with five kills, seven points and nine digs.
Poland was aided by Dee Muransky with six kills, three points and three digs while Megan Mulligan collected four kills, nine points and two blocks.
Brandi Snavely led the Cardinals (4-6, 2-3) with six points and Stephanie Jarvis had four kills and two blocks.
Struthers 15-16, Niles 13-14
NILES -- Stephanie Monus had 12 kills, Amanda Cavanaugh was credited with 25 assists and Brittany Varga scored eight points for the Wildcats (4-5, 1-3 MAC).
For Niles (3-5, 0-4), Shannon Floyd had nine assists, Stacia Ray had eight points and Erin Swift tacked on four digs.
Alliance 15-16, Howland 10-14
ALLIANCE -- Jan Kehres had 18 kills, Kelliane Tucker 25 assists, Brienne Dunlap eight points and Michelle Miller two blocks to lead Alliance.
For Howland (8-2, 3-2 MAC), junior Jaime Kelly had eight points, two aces, eight kills and two blocks, while her sister, sophomore Brittany Kelly, contributed three points, one ace, 14 assists, seven kills and five blocks.
Jackson-Milton 15-15, Lowellville 1-10
NORTH JACKSON -- Shannon McGee collected 11 points, an ace and five digs while Stephanie Kelecava was in with nine kills and three blocks for the Blue Jays (6-3, 3-1 Inter-County League).
For the Rockets (2-5), Lindsay Wilson had four points and six sets while Dana Donatelli added five kills and two blocks.
Springfield 15-15,South Range 8-12
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Clarisse Evans came up with seven points and an ace while Carrie Davis added seven points, two aces, seven kills and two blocks for the Tigers (8-2, 5-0 ICL).
For the Raiders, Jodi James had two points, six kills and three blocks. Allie Einsiedel added six points, two aces and two kills.
Lordstown 15-15, Mooney 4-4
YOUNGSTOWN -- Samantha Kisttler had 11 points and 6 aces, Alycia Israel 13 assists, Janelle Beaver five kills and three blocks and Amanda Kistler seven points, three kills and one ace to spark Lordstown (5-1).
Lakeview 15-15, Liberty 3-8
LIBERTY -- Kate Barnett led the Bulldogs (9-0, 6-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference) with eight points and four aces. Whitney Keyser had nine kills and Megan Taylor had 12 assists for Lakeview.
For the Leopards (4-5, 2-4), Chenelle Mills scored three points and Ami Markowitz had five kills.
Champion 15-15, LaBrae 9-8
LEAVITTSBURG -- Amber VanOrman had three aces, Shannon Gardnier picked up three aces, Kelly Meyer recorded nine assists and Heather Pegg blocked six balls for the Golden Flashes (7-3, 3-3 TAC).
Maddie D'Orio killed nine shots and Lindsey Higgins had nine points and six assists for the Vikings (0-9, 0-5).
Hubbard 15-15, Brookfield 1-8
BROOKFIELD -- Danielle Nock had seven kills and five blocks, Traci Hassall five digs and nine assists and Diana Conzelt 16 points to lead Hubbard (5-1, 5-1 TAC).
For Brookfield (6-4, 3-3), Laura Klouse had three kills and one block while Jessica Zebroski had 13 digs and four kills.
Girard 15-15, Newton Falls 2-7
GIRARD -- Kristen Ragozine had nine points, five aces and two digs, while Courtney Madden had six kills and five blocks and Erin Stevens nine points, nine assists and two digs to spark Girard (7-4, 4-2 TAC).
For Newton Falls (2-5, 1-4), Brittany Romain had six points, three saves and Brittany Calai six digs.
Columbiana 15-9-18,Crestview 11-15-16
COLUMBIANA -- Katie Kibby had 13 kills and 11 blocks for the Rebels (5-3, 3-3 Tri-County League). Michelle Parks and Stacy McCall each scored 10 points.
West Branch 15-15, Akron Springfield 4-2
BELOIT -- Ashley Armstrong collected three saves, six kills and three blocks while Kate Bailey added six points and three digs for the Warriors (6-4).
