Fall Classicat Sharon Speedway
HARTFORD -- Cerni Motors will present the York E-mods and Pure Stocks Fall Classic at Sharon Speedway Saturday.
Approximately $15,000 in purse money will be given out, with $1,000 going to the winner of the Pure Stocks feature and $800 to the driver crossing the line first in the York E-mods feature.
Gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps beginning at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults 14 and older, $5 for kids 6-13 and free for children 5 and younger. Pit passes are $30. Coolers less than 14 inches are permitted.
Class B Leagueelects officers
STRUTHERS -- The Youngstown Class B Baseball League held its election of officers Wednesday.
Tony Gorvet was elected president for the 2004 season. Bob Burke was elected vice-president, Greg Krieger was elected secretary and Scott Ruark was elected treasurer.
Correction
CANFIELD -- Jessica Toth, a sophomore on the Poland High girls soccer team, scored the Bulldogs' second goal of the game with 3:23 remaining in their 2-0 win over Canfield Wednesday.
The game's article in Thursday's paper erroneously listed Britt Davis as the goal scorer.
New assistants
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College Department of Athletics has hired six assistant coaches.
They are Ashley Pyle (women's soccer), Eric Golz (men's soccer), Pat Vereb and Tim Widdowfield (football), Ben O'Connor (men's basketball) and Josh Gurekovich (swimming and diving).

Francona suspended
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Athletics bench coach Terry Francona was suspended for one game for an argument with umpires last week in Tampa Bay.
Francona is expected to serve the suspension Saturday during the Athletics' game at Texas.
Francona was ejected last Saturday for arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt during Oakland's 7-4 loss.
Goalie missing
FRISCO, Texas -- Dallas Stars goalie Marty Turco, who has been offered a $12 million, three-year contract, was not at the team meeting Thursday night that marked the beginning of training camp.
Turco set a modern NHL record last season with his 1.72 goals against average. He was also an All-Star in his first season as the starter, finishing 31-10-10.
Owner Tom Hicks and general manager Doug Armstrong said the $12 million contract would be the club's final offer to Turco, who made $850,000 last season. The team had initially offered only a $3.5 million deal for this season.
Jazz sign guard
SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Jazz signed restricted free agent guard Jason Terry to an offer sheet. The Jazz have been looking for a starting point guard since John Stockton retired after last season.

* BRISTOL, Va. -- Kemp Richardson rallied from two holes down with three to play and won the USGA Senior Amateur in a one-hole playoff.
Richardson, of Laguna Niguel, Calif., became the 13th player to win the title a second time.
* AUSTIN, Texas -- Marlene Streit became the USGA's oldest national champion, needing 47 holes over her final two matches to win the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur Championship.
Streit, 69, of Toronto defeated Nancy Fitzgerald of Carmel, Ind., in the 23-hole championship match with a par on the fifth extra hole.
Streit won the 1956 U.S. Women's Amateur and the 1985 and 1994 Senior Women's Amateur champion.
