Groups raise funds for mom of child injured at campfire

BEDFORD, Pa. (AP) -- Race-car drivers and jail guards have banded together to raise money to help a western Pennsylvania woman whose 18-month-old daughter was severely burned when she fell into a campfire.
Workers at the Bedford County Jail have placed canisters with a picture of Destiny Snyder of Loysburg around the county. Drivers at a race Saturday will pass their helmets through the crowd to raise money for the toddler and her mother, Belinda Snyder, a jail guard.
Destiny suffered second- and third-degree burns to her face, arms and chest when she tripped over a chair and fell into a campfire on the night before Labor Day. She is scheduled to have the first of several skin-grafting surgeries Friday in Cleveland.
"She is still in critical condition, her lungs keep filling up with fluid, but her vital signs are steady," said Diane Nelson, a family friend.
Nelson said the money will be used to help Belinda Snyder, who has stayed by her daughter's side since the accident and has run out of sick and vacation days, pay for her stay in Cleveland and other bills at her home.
