Cancer society thanks the residents of Mahoning Valley for donations

CANFIELD -- Residents of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties donated an average of $3.23 each to the Mahoning Valley American Cancer Society, the highest per capita average in the state from Sept. 1, 2002, to Aug. 31, 2003.
Jo-Ann Crank, executive director of the local AMS office, said the area, with 588,830 residents, donated $1,904,000 during that 12-month period.
"This is an incredible accomplishment that the volunteers and people who support ACS special events and programs deserve the recognition for," said Al Stabilito, communications and advocacy director for the local ACS.
During the year, the ACS has various events and fund-raising activities. Volunteers, in cooperation with the ACS staff, organize events such as the Relay for Life, golf outings, the Swim-Along, Kids Coins for Cancer, Spin for a Cure and others.
The local ACS, located at 525 N. Broad St., is part of the Ohio Division American Cancer Society office, located in Dublin.
