WEATHERSFIELD -- Township police have closed down a hydroponic marijuana growing operation, seizing more than $250,000 worth of the drug.
"It was a sophisticated operation. It was high-tech," Police Chief Joseph Consiglio said today.
No arrests were made after the 12:30 p.m. Tuesday raid in the 600 block of Salt Springs Road.
Consiglio said charges will be filed today against the property owner. The owner won't be arrested and arraigned immediately because he is hospitalized for an illness, the chief added.
Tip
Consiglio said they received information that marijuana was being grown at the two-story residence. They obtained a search warrant from Judge Peter Kontos of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
When township police entered the home, they found 277 plants worth about $1,000 each, the chief said.
The plants were in seedling pots with lights and water used as growing medium.
Besides the plants, police confiscated a 12-gauge shotgun, plastic bags and scales.
