Cinderella's slippers were originally made of squirrel fur. A mistake was made in translating the story from the original folk tale in the 1700s, and the poor girl has been dancing in glass slippers ever since.
The largest squirrel on Earth is the Ratufa, of Southeast Asia and Nepal. It can grow to a whopping 3 feet long. The smallest is the African Pygmy, which can grow to 2 and 1/2 inches long.
A squirrel typically eats the equivalent of its body weight each week.
After mating with a male squirrel once, a female squirrel will never mate with the same male again.
The largest concentration of squirrels in the United States is in Washington, D.C., directly across from the White House in Lafayette Park.
