SOCCER Canfield, Poland, Howland post boys MAC wins



State-ranked Massillon Jackson edged Fitch.
SALEM -- Senior Dave Piersante scored two goals and added an assist while senior Mark Bezy recorded a hat trick Tuesday as the Canfield High School boys soccer team defeated Salem, 8-0.
Seniors Matt Pietro and Rob Kime had a goal apiece and sophomore Tim Latimer scored on a penalty kick for the Cardinals.
Sophomore Adam Jones had an assist.
Canfield senior goalkeeper Karim El Raddaf made nine saves.
Howland 4, Niles 2
NILES -- Senior Cody Chappell scored two goals while junior Mike Maiorano and sophomore Mark Hammond added one apiece for Howland (6-1-1, 3-0) in the Metro Athletic Conference game.
Senior Lucas Martorana had two assists while Marc Dunbar, also a senior, accounted one assist.
Niles' goals were scored by Nathan Mang and Chris Utterback.
Howland's goalkeepers Zack Roscoe and Mark Burley, both juniors, each made three saves while Niles goalkeeper Joe Harvey stopped three attempts.
Poland 1, Alliance 0
ALLIANCE -- Ken Toth scored in the second half for the Bulldogs (4-1, 2-1 MAC).
Poland took more shots on goal than the Aviators (4-2, 2-1), 12-10, and had more corner kicks, 6-1.
Massillon Jackson 2, Austintown Fitch 1
AUSTINTOWN -- State-ranked Massillon Jackson took a 1-0 lead four minutes into the game before tacking on another goal nine minutes prior to halftime en route to its seventh straight victory in a Federal League match.
The Polar Bears, ranked ninth in Division I, are 3-0 in the league.
Fitch got on the board with 23 minutes remaining in the game when Chris Frazzini found the net. It was the senior forward's fifth goal of the season.
Pat Passewitz, Fitch's senior goalkeeper, made 10 saves for the Falcons (1-5-1, 1-2).
Massillon Jackson had a 12-11 edge in shots-on-goal.
Newton Falls 4, Liberty 0
LIBERTY -- Jared Svette scored twice while Scott Byer and Aaron Reihard had one goal apiece for Newton Falls.
The halftime score was 2-0.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jeremy Hume had 12 saves for Liberty (0-6), while Newton Falls goalkeepers Brent Davis and Kurt Ellis combined for 11 stops with 10 and one, respectively.
This is Liberty's first varsity season for boys soccer.
Crestview 4, United 1
HANOVERTON -- James Frost scored two goals and had an assist for the Rebels (5-1-2). Ken Wagenhouser added two goals.
Brock Voilio led the Golden Eagles with a goal.
Columbiana 5, East Palestine 2
COLUMBIANA -- Eric Birnesser and Barry Kimpel each scored two goals and Kyle Martin one for the Clippers.
Kimpel had two assists and Birnesser and Martin one apiece.
Shaun McCauley scored both of the Bulldogs goals and Brandon Hull had two assists.
Heartland Christian 3,Warren Christian 2
WARREN -- Sophomore Jordan Uhl's unassisted corner kick snapped a 1-1 tie that helped lift the Lions.
Sophomore Mike Barborak scored two goals while Jordan Uhl had another for Heartland (3-2).
Blake Kozma, a junior, assisted on Barborak's goals for the Lions from Columbiana.
Sophomore Mike Regel had both goals for the Warren Christian Rams, whose goalkeeper, Billy Powell, made seven saves.
Heartland's John Congelio made six stops.
Girls
KINSMAN -- Junior Tessa Bonar and senior Jen Fitch scored two goals apiece while sophomore Hannah Miller had one as Badger defeated Pymatuning Valley 5-2 in a Northeastern Athletic Conference game.
Miller had two assists, while junior Alivia Nuzzo and Shannon Sudon, a sophomore, had one assist apiece in the game in which Badger (5-1-1, 2-0) had a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Leah Davis and Gabrielle Neuroth had a goal apiece and Neuroth also had an assist for Pymatuning (2-4, 0-2).
Stephanie Coe made 14 saves for the Lakers while Badger goalkeeper Liz Smith, a senior, made four saves.
Badger defender Jaime Polk is the Braves' only other senior.
Liberty 4, Badger 4
LIBERTY -- Brittny Humphrey and Meghan Harshbarger each scored two goals in Liberty's tie with Badger on Monday.
Amy Banner had an assist for the Leopards (2-4-1, 1-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
For Badger, Cayla Arnold scored two goals while Bonar and Shannon Sudon each added one.
