Man in weapons case misses his date in court

YOUNGSTOWN -- A man arrested last month for failing to comply with the terms of his probation after being found guilty of carrying a concealed weapon and serving only three days in jail in July is on the wanted list again.
Joseph L. Sanders, 31, of Dryden Avenue, was to have appeared Wednesday morning before Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. for sentencing on the probation violation charge, but he failed to appear in court. Judge Douglas issued a warrant for his arrest.
The judge originally sentenced Sanders to 100 days in jail on the concealed-weapon charge but suspended 87, gave him credit for three days served, fined him $100 and placed him on nine months' probation.
Sanders did not sign up for probation, resulting in a charge of failing to comply.
He told the court that he did not register with the probation office because he thought he would be arrested again after his sentence drew criticism from U.S. attorney Greg White and loads of callers to local talk radio shows who thought three days in jail was too light a sentence for a man convicted of a weapons charge.
