HILLSVILLE, Pa. -- Federal and state emergency management agencies have toured Mahoning Township, and supervisors are waiting to see whether any money will be forthcoming to help repair recent storm damage.
Supervisor Chairman Poncho Exposito reported when supervisors met Tuesday that the availability of state and federal funds depends on whether Lawrence County receives a disaster designation.
He estimated damage to township roads at $250,000 to $500,000.
In related news, supervisors have learned they will receive $25,000 in liquid fuels money from county commissioners to help with storm damage cleanup.
Exposito also announced that the annual trash pickup will be late this year because road crews are backlogged with road repairs.
The pickup is usually in late September, but this year it will not be until the end of October. Dates will be announced later.
CDBG administrator hired
Supervisors hired consultant James Farris of New Castle to oversee administration of a $173,000 Community Development Block Grant. The grant will provide tap-in fees to low- and moderate-income residents for the next phase of the township waterline project. Farris was the only bidder for the consulting job. He offered to do it for $40 per hour and $7 per hour clerical work.
Exposito said the annual car show to benefit the township fire department is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the township park on U.S. Route 224. Admission is free. Exhibitors can register the day of the show or call the municipal building at (724) 667-8801 for more information.
