Ursuline potluck dinner
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ursuline High School Home and School Association sponsors a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24 with comments from members of the association about upcoming events and activities. A general meeting of the association is slated for 6 to 9 p.m. this Wednesday in the school's cafeteria.

Management degree
CANFIELD -- Malone College will hold an information meeting on its accelerated management degree completion program for adults at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Malone College Continuing Studies Center at the Westford Professional Centre, 4137 Boardman-Canfield Road. GED tests offered
CANFIELD -- The Adult Education school at the Mahoning County Career & amp; Technical Center offers the official GED test from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Students must attend both days and submit an application with the state GED office. For further information on testing or on GED classes, call (330) 729-4100.
Central State Career Day
WILBERFORCE -- Deadline is Sept. 26 for businesses and other groups to register for participation in Career Day at Central State University. The 11:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. event includes lunch, displays from various schools, businesses, nonprofit groups and military groups, and a social hour. Cost is $10 to sponsor a student and $80 per person for school, nonprofit and government groups. Businesses pay $200 for one person and $75 for each additional person. Call (937) 376-6383.

Child health crisis
COLUMBUS -- Registration deadline is Sept. 25 for the Ohio Action for Healthy Kids Healthy School Summit, running Oct. 2 to 3 in Columbus. The partnership of more than 20 education, fitness, nutrition and health organizations plans to address the role of schools in responding to the child health crisis. Registration is $60. Faculty awarded
YOUNGSTOWN -- The following Youngstown State University faculty members have recently received awards.
Joan DiGiulio of Canfield, a professor of social work, received the National Association of Social Workers' Lifetime Achievement Award for the State of Ohio; she is also the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for NASW Ohio Chapter, District 4.
Maggie McClendon, coordinator of undergraduate admissions who specializes in the recruitment of Hispanic students, was honored at the annual Ohio Association for College Admission Counseling Spring Conference with its Human Relations Award.
Samuel Adu Poku of Youngstown, assistant professor of art, has been selected as the first recipient of the Arts Researchers and Teachers Society Award for Graduate Research in Arts Education for 2002. ARTS, a special interest group affiliated with the Canadian Association of Curriculum Studies and the Canadian Society for the Study of Education, bestowed the award to recognize Poku's doctoral degree dissertation.
