Federal assistance available in Mercer County
MERCER, Pa. -- Any Mercer County municipality, school, municipal authority, medical facility, senior center, library or other nonprofit facility that was damaged in storms between July 21 and Sept. 4 can apply for federal assistance.
Mercer County was one of six northwest Pennsylvania counties to receive a federal disaster designation in late August because of flooding.
County officials estimated the loss to public properties at around $1.5 million.
John R. Nicklin, emergency management agency deputy director for the county, said those public entities that suffered losses have until Sept. 22 to file an application for assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Money is available to help cover emergency work as well as permanent restoration of damaged facilities, roads and bridges.
