GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Dr. Gillis Harp, a history professor at Grove City College, recently completed a book on 19th-century pastor Phillips Brooks. Harp's publisher, Rowman & amp; Littlefield, will officially release the work in October.
"Brahmin Prophet: Phillips Brooks and the Path of Liberal Protestantism" is part of a series of books titled "American Intellectual Culture." Brooks, author of the Christmas carol "O Little Town of Bethlehem" was one of the most popular preachers in Gilded Age America. Harp's biography examines his life and work and outlines how Brooks became a leading spokesman for the liberal Broad Church movement within the Episcopal Church.
