YORKTOWN, Ind. -- Junior Gina Abruzzino (Niles) tied for seventh place at the Ball State Cardinal Classic, which concluded Sunday at The Players Club Golf Course.
Abruzzino shot 79-73--152. Western Michigan's Stephanie Donkin was medalist with a 144, leading her squad to the title.
At the 17-team meet, the Penguins placed 11th with an 18-hole score of 646 (322-324). Other YSU finishers were Lori Hatcher (162, 37th), Alex Casi (166, 50th), Jennie Fleiner (167, 58th) and Megan Bricker (172, 68th).
Football tickets
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tickets remain for Saturday's game at Kent State.
Tickets, priced at $15, can be purchased by calling (330) 941-1YSU. The tickets in the YSU allotment are in section 1 at Dix Stadium. Fans who wish to sit behind the YSU team bench (Sections 9-12) should call the Kent State ticket office (330-672-2244).
Tailgate passes are $5 and can be purchased at Dix Stadium on Saturday or by calling Kent State.

Clark is SVC player
YOUNGSTOWN -- Daryll Clark of Ursuline High was named Steel Valley Conference player of the week for his performance in the Irish's 40-7 victory over Wilmington.
Clark, a senior, completed 12-of-18 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
Southington on road
SOUTHINGTON -- The Southington High football game Saturday will be played at Newbury at 7:30 p.m. It was originally scheduled as a 1 p.m. home game.
Lakeview wins
AKRON -- The Lakeview High volleyball team won the Akron Hoban Invitational Saturday, defeating Cuyahoga Falls, 15-9, 15-5; West Salem Northwestern, 15-9, 15-8, and Akron Hoban, 15-4, 15-4.
Whitney Keyser had 28 kills, 15 digs and three blocks for Lakeview (6-0). Megan Taylor had 18 kills and 29 assists, Lindsay Whetzel had 19 points and Kate Barnett had 18 points.
Keyser and Taylor were selected to the all-tournament team.

* Colin Durina, a sophomore on the Cardinal Mooney High cross country team, won the Rotary Invitational at East Palestine High Saturday in a time of 17:30.8. Durina's name was misspelled and his time was wrong in Sunday's editions.

Ryan Jayne, a member of the College of Wooster football team from East Palestine, returned an interception 100 yards for touchdown in the Scots' 45-36 victory over Hope (Mich.) Saturday.

Charge dropped
PITTSBURGH -- An involuntary manslaughter charge against a Roman Catholic priest was dropped Monday after the death of a drunken college football player who fell through a church ceiling was ruled an accident.
The decision by deputy coroner Timothy Uhrich means the Rev. Henry Krawczyk will not face involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of Billy Gaines, who died June 18 during a cookout where the priest allegedly provided alcohol.

NEW YORK -- U.S. Open champion Andy Roddick officially rose to a career-best No. 2 in the ATP Tour rankings, one place behind losing finalist Juan Carlos Ferrero.
Andre Agassi, who lost to Ferrero in the Open semifinals, dropped from No. 1 to No. 4. Wimbledon champion Roger Federer is No. 3.
Justine Henin-Hardenne is second in the WTA Tour rankings for the first time after winning the U.S. Open women's title, dropping Serena Williams to No. 3 -- her lowest placing since May 2002.
Open runner-up Kim Clijsters is still No. 1. Open semifinalists Lindsay Davenport and Jennifer Capriati are fourth and fifth. Venus Williams slipped from No. 5 to No. 6 this week, her worst ranking in about 3 1/2 years.

Gilmour retires
TORONTO -- Doug Gilmour retired after an NHL career in which he played 20 seasons and won a Stanley Cup with the Calgary Flames in 1989.
The 40-year-old forward played for seven teams, totaling 450 goals and 964 assists. He was dealt to Toronto from Montreal last season but sustained a season-ending knee injury in his first game back with the Maple Leafs.
