SCHOOL BOARDS McDonald, Lakeview
Various matters handled by McDonald and Lakeview school boards Monday night:
McDONALD
Approved a $6.1 million appropriation for the 2003-04 fiscal year, including an increase of 2.8 percent in the general fund for salaries and benefits for staff. The general fund is $5.23 million, Treasurer Thomas Radabaugh said.
Joined a consortium of educational service centers of Cuyahoga, Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, Trumbull and Wood counties, which formed to gain access to Medicaid reimbursement for special education for local districts. Meccatech Inc. of Holt, Mich., will assist the consortium with software systems, consulting, advocacy, data collection, data processing and other support as is needed. Radabaugh said joining the consortium costs the McDonald district nothing, but it takes a small percentage of what they recover for the district. Last year, the district was reimbursed $9,300 in federal Medicaid funds through the consortium for services the district gives special-education pupils.
LAKEVIEW
Discussed the projected ending balance of $109,000 from the 2003-04 school year that would carry over to the 2004-05 school year.
Selected Harcum-Hyre Insurance, Columbus, the low bidder at $23,903, for the fleet insurance carrier for the district's 24 buses and vans for the 2003-04 school year.
Hired a full-time kindergarten teacher, a first-grade teacher, OhioReads coordinators, and a media technical assistant. Salaries were not available.
Accepted donations from the Lakeview Bulldog Booster Club, Atty. James Fredericka and Rick Smelko.
Heard from Don Snowberger, district technical coordinator, that the school district's Web site will be up and running soon.
