LIBERTY Trustees
Highlights of Monday's township trustee meeting:
Approved an agreement with Consumers Ohio Water Co. for the construction of waterlines. Trustees have proposed extending a line from the 1300 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road east to Logan Avenue and north to Will-O-Wood Drive. A second project would be along Tibbetts-Wick Road, from Sampson Drive to Belmont Avenue.
Rescinded a previous motion and paid Niles $13,500 to remain in the Niles-Trumbull Transit System. The on-demand bus program begins Monday. Ungaro said trustees decided to go along with the one-year pilot project to determine if it benefits residents. Trustee Patrick Durina voted against the expenditure.
Agreed to pay $272,500 for a 2003 rescue-pumper truck. Fire Chief Michael Durkin said the emergency purchase is being made because two trucks have broken down. A 1978 truck has a pump problem and a 1984 truck needs a transmission. The two old trucks will be traded in.
Hired MS Consultants Inc. of Youngstown to determine how to improve drainage systems in areas that flooded during summer storms.
Hired Catherine Riser of Liberty as the township's first female firefighter. Riser has been a part-time firefighter for 21/2 years, Durkin said.
Promoted Police Sgt. Kenneth Feigert to captain. He will replace Capt. James Cerenelli, who is retiring.
Approved $145,000 for engineering a waterline from Tibbetts-Wick Road west to state Route 11, including Belmont Park Estates.
Approved $25,000 for engineering for a sewer line extension from Belmont Avenue and Gypsy Lane west to the township road department.
