HUBBARD | Township trustees

Hubbard trustees met Monday night to discuss these issues:
Awarded a contract to Curtis Crump Construction of Hubbard to repair the Shafer East Road culvert. The cost will be $53,800; the company submitted the lowest of six bids.Accepted the sole bid of Shelley & amp; Sands of Girard to pave three roads in the Masury area. This project is part of a state Issue 2 grant the township received. Trustee Jonathan Dowell suggested accepting the bid subject to acceptance by the Ohio Public Works Commission and the Trumbull County commissioners' office. The bid was for $60,842. Announced that the township will have a used tire drop-off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at the township building. The trustees also announced that Trumbull County will have its tire drop-off at the county fairgrounds in Bazetta Township from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 25.Agreed to apply for federal funds through the Federal Emergency Management Agency for three tornado sirens, a storm-water study, and bridging lower Yankee Run Creek. Trustees also will request that specific parts of Yankee Run be channeled and dredged. The township has until Sept. 26 to submit the request to Columbus. If residents have any problems with their properties, they are urged to contact any of the trustees so they can be placed on a list. Granted Anthem Blue Cross a one-year contract for $8,475 per month for the health-insurance premium for township employees. This is a 16 percent increase from last year.Reminded anyone circulating petitions for the sewer project in the township's southwest portion that they must contact Dowell before Sept. 17. He can be reached at (330) 568-0148. Trustees said 263 houses out of 600 in that section have failed septic systems. This area will be forced to upgrade. The only issue is whether the township will receive grants for this low- to moderate-housing area or whether residents will be forced to pay. The cost to each resident would be between $12,000 to $20,000 to place a sewage system. Any sewage system older than 5 years old will fail the inspections.Approved a request from Walter White from the road department to order 700 tons of slag and 300 tons of salt for snow control. The cost will be $14,500.
