MLS ROUNDUP Saturday's games

Crew 1, Fire 1
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Carlos Bocanegra scored in the 66th minute to lift the Chicago Fire into a tie with the Columbus Crew. Bocanegra headed Chris Armas' corner kick past goalkeeper Jon Busch to tie the game. Chicago (11-5-7), which has lost consecutive games this season, remained in first place in the Eastern Conference, six points ahead of the MetroStars. Edson Buddle scored his sixth goal of the season for the Crew (7-9-7). Eric Denton sent a long pass to the front of the goal, and Buddle headed the ball into the lower right corner to extend his consecutive games point streak to six. The MLS game drew 15,136 fans, a sellout and largest home crowd this season for the Fire.
United 2, Galaxy 1
WASHINGTON -- Dema Kovalenko scored the fastest goal of the season for D.C. United, and Ben Olsen also connected in the first half of a victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy. In just the third minute, Kovalenko was given open space near the top of the penalty area and fired a left-footed shot inside the far post. The Galaxy (7-8-8), which have allowed a goal or less in 17 games this season, gave up Olsen's on a lower shot to the same post to give United (8-8-6) a 2-0 lead. But United, playing its first league home game since Aug. 13, was forced to hold on after Diego Serna swept in a ball off a corner kick in the 51st.
Rapids 2, Burn 1
DENVER -- Chris Henderson scored in the 76th minute on a pass from Mark Chung and the Colorado Rapids defeated the Dallas Burn. Chris Carrieri scored on assists by John Spencer and Henderson in the 53rd minute for Colorado (10-9-4). Henderson's goal, only his second of the season after scoring 11 in 2002, was drilled to the far corner against Dallas keeper D.J. Countess. A volley by Spencer set up Carrieri's one-timer in a narrow space between Countess and the post. Chung was red-carded in the 90th minute.
MetroStars 2, Kansas City 1
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Clint Mathis scored both goals -- never a bad omen for his team -- as the MetroStars beat the struggling Kansas City Wizards. The MetroStars (9-6-7) are 20-0-4 in MLS games in which Mathis has scored. His first goal came when he headed in Amado Guevara's corner kick during first-half stoppage time. He scored again in the 59th minute, getting his team-leading ninth goal of the season. Kansas City (7-8-8), winless in seven games, cut the lead in the 79th minute on a penalty kick by Preki. The goal was the 23rd of Preki's MLS career.
