MUNCIE, Ind. -- Chaney High graduate Brad Smith had 229 yards of total offense in the first half as Missouri beat Ball State 35-7 Saturday.
Missouri answered an early Ball State score with 21 straight points before halftime. Smith, who scored on a 35-yard touchdown run to give Missouri the lead, rushed for 117 yards on 13 carries and completed 11 of 17 passes for 112 yards.
The Tigers (2-0) finished with 461 yards of total offense, while Ball State was held to 244 yards, including 41 on the ground.
Scoring drives
Backup Santino Riccio took over the Missouri offense in the second half and extended the Tigers' 21-7 halftime lead.
Riccio, who went 7-of-12 for 59 yards, led the Tigers on a pair of second-half scoring drives, including a 14-play, 80-yard drive that lasted 6:35 and ended with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Victor Sesay.
Zack Abron, who rushed for 79 yards on 18 carries, finished Missouri's scoring with a 5-yard run in the fourth.
No. 12 Tennessee 34, Marshall 24
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Casey Clausen threw three touchdown passes and James Wilhoit kicked two field goals in the fourth quarter as No. 12 Tennessee struggled to beat Marshall.
Marshall (1-1) led early before Tennessee (2-0) scored two touchdowns to go ahead for good after halftime, but the Herd would not let up, even without its starting quarterback.
No. 18 Wisconsin 48, Akron 31
MADISON, Wis. -- Lee Evans had 214 yards receiving and Anthony Davis had 247 yards rushing as No. 18 Wisconsin held off Akron.
It was the first time in the program's 114-year history that the Badgers (2-0) had a wideout and running back both top 200 yards in the same game.
Iowa St. 48, Ohio 20
AMES, Iowa -- Austin Flynn threw for two touchdowns and had 330 yards in total offense, while Michael Wagner rushed for 115 yards and two scores as Iowa State beat Ohio University.
Iowa State (2-0) was much sharper offensively than in its 17-10 victory over Northern Iowa a week ago but still got a scare from the Bobcats (1-1), who burned the Cyclones with three big plays.
Cent. Michigan 40, New Hampshire 33
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Jerry Seymour ran for 166 yards on 27 carries and scored three touchdowns as Central Michigan beat New Hampshire.
The Chippewas (1-1) trailed 23-19 at halftime but outscored the Wildcats (1-1) 21-10 in the second half.
Seymour had just 27 yards at halftime before adding 139 to his tally in the second half.
N. Illinois 42, Tennessee Tech 17
DEKALB, Ill. -- Michael Turner rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries to lead Northern Illinois to a victory over Tennessee Tech in the first meeting between the schools.
The Huskies (2-0) took control in the third quarter when the Golden Eagles (0-2) botched two straight punting situations.
