BIG TEN Bowling Green wins in upset of No. 16 Purdue

No. 5 Michigan hammered Houston 50-3.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Josh Harris threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Charles Sharon with 2:08 left as Bowling Green upset No. 16 Purdue 27-26 Saturday.
Coach Gregg Brandon clapped his hands and patted players on the back as the Falcons (2-0) celebrated their first victory over a ranked opponent since Sept. 16, 1972. That win, 17-14, also came against Purdue (0-1).
It was the Boilermakers' first opening-day loss since 1998 and ruined coach Joe Tiller's perfect record in home openers. Tiller is now 6-1.
Harris was the reason. He completed 22 of 40 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns, including an improbable game-winner on fourth-and-15.
With a heavy pass rush coming, Harris stepped up in the pocket, barely avoided the hit and spotted Sharon open behind the Purdue defenders. As the ball fluttered toward the end zone, Sharon ran toward the ball, dived and caught it -- setting off a mob scene.
No. 5 Michigan 50, Houston 3
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Chris Perry ran for 184 yards and two touchdowns as Michigan beat Houston.
The Wolverines (2-0) host No. 19 Notre Dame next week following two wins by a combined score of 95-10.
After Michigan forced a fumble midway through the first quarter, it scored 22 points over the next 16 minutes against the Cougars (1-1) to spark the blowout.
No. 22 Washington 38, Indiana 13
SEATTLE -- Cody Pickett threw two of his three touchdown passes to Reggie Williams as Washington beat Indiana.
Freshman tailback Shelton Sampson ran for two TDs as the Huskies (1-1) gave Keith Gilbertson his first victory as coach and rebounded from a disappointing 28-9 loss at Ohio State last week.
Michigan St. 44, Rutgers 28
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Jeff Smoker threw for 351 yards and three touchdowns and Michigan State returned a kickoff and an interception for scores in a win over Rutgers.
It was the 1,000th game for Michigan State (2-0), which wore throwback uniforms and placed its original nickname -- the Aggies -- on the Spartan Stadium scoreboards.
Iowa 56, Buffalo 7
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Nathan Chandler threw two touchdown passes and Iowa's defense and special teams added scores in a victory over Buffalo.
The Hawkeyes (2-0) put the game away early, scoring touchdowns on their first four possessions and getting another when safety Sean Considine returned a fumble 11 yards for a touchdown. The flurry gave Iowa a 35-0 lead midway through the second quarter and sent most of its key starters to the bench.
Air Force 22, Northwestern 21
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Nate Allen returned an interception 79 yards for a touchdown to help Air Force beat Northwestern.
Air Force (2-0) trailed 21-13 when Allen intercepted quarterback Brett Basanez's errant throw and ran it back for the score to make it 21-19. Air Force went for two, but backup quarterback Adam Fitch was stopped short of the goal line.
Minnesota 48, Troy State 7
MINNEAPOLIS -- Asad Abdul-Khaliq set a school record with his 41st career touchdown pass and also ran for a score to lead Minnesota to a rout of Troy State.
Minnesota's senior captain went 10-for-16 for 171 yards with an interception as the heavily-favored Gophers recovered from a sloppy start.
