The Cleveland Indians on Saturday acquired right-hander Dave Lee from the Los Angeles Dodgers for outfielder Alex Requena.
Lee, who spent this season with the Dodgers' Triple-A farm club at Las Vegas, had his contract purchased from Triple-A Buffalo and joined the Indians for Saturday's game against the White Sox.
Requena spent the entire season with Double-A Akron.
To make room for Lee on their 40-man roster, the Indians put shortstop Omar Vizquel on the 60-day disabled list.
On Friday, Vizquel had a second operation on his right knee to repair torn cartilage. He will be ready for spring training.
Marlins
Ivan Rodriguez likes what he sees in the Florida Marlins and said he wants to stay with the team after this season.
The catcher, who lives in Miami, signed a one-year $10 million contract in January.
"I like the organization, I like the team. It's my home," Rodriguez said in San Juan, where his team is playing a three-game series against the Montreal Expos.
"What I like the most is the camaraderie in the clubhouse," he added.
Rodriguez said he is focusing on the NL wild-card race and will not discuss contract talks until after the season.
"After that we'll see what happens," he said.
Rodriguez said he would like to be around when the team's young pitching staff starts to fully develop.
"Our five starters are quality pitchers. Our team, if it's not complete, it's really close," Rodriguez said.
