Mooney, Ursuline trample opponents



CLEVELAND -- The Cardinal Mooney High football team scored 31 unanswered points Friday in a 31-6 romp over East Cleveland Shaw.
After Dustin Hinkle kicked a 19-yard field goal, quarterback Ron Stoops hit Brad Handel for a 21-yard touchdown.
In the second quarter, Dave Zidian caught an 8-yard scoring pass from Stoops and Frank Cassese recovered a fumble and ran for a 3-yard score for a 24-0 advantage for Mooney (3-0).
After Mooney's Mike Rich scored on a 15-yard run, Shaw's Marcellous Hunter scored on a 22-yard run.
Rushing and passing statistics were not provided.

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Irish's Terrell Washington rushed for 142 yards on 12 carries, including touchdown runs of 58 and 37 yards.
Ursuline's Alex Allen gained 131 yards on 11 carries. He scored on a 1-yard run and also tallied with a 47-yard pass interception.
Quarterback Daryl Clark of the Irish (1-2) connected on 12 of 18 passes for 166 yards, which included a 3-yard TD strike to Walt Lacy for a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.
Wilmington fell to 1-1.
