SALEM -- Police received reports that tires were flattened on vehicles at two residences. A vehicle parked in the 200 block of North Lincoln Avenue had three tires punctured and a fourth damaged. All the tires on a vehicle parked in the 300 block of North Ellsworth Avenue were either punctured or had the air let out of them. The crimes were reported Thursday morning, police said.
A federal case
PITTSBURGH -- James D. Caccamo, 45, of Kaufman Drive, Butler, pleaded guilty in a U.S. federal court to one count of theft from an organization receiving federal funds. Luke E. Demosky, an assistant U.S. attorney, told the court that Caccamo, while employed as a resident property manager of a multifamily housing project known as Butler Family Housing, embezzled more than $5,000 from the project's owner, Butler Ltd. At the time, Butler Ltd. was receiving benefits under federal programs through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Sentencing is set for 11:30 a.m. Dec. 4.
Road work ahead
MERCER, Pa. -- Lane restrictions will be in effect Monday through Friday next week on U.S. Route 62 between Zahniser Road and Mercer Borough because of drainage work, base repair and paving of the road.
Some delays may occur as traffic backs up in and approaching the work areas, and motorists are encouraged to use another route, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said.
Mosquito spraying set
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection will conduct spraying to control the adult mosquito population in Lawrence County, where sampling has shown unusually large numbers of mosquitoes that potentially can carry the West Nile virus. Weather permitting, spraying will be conducted along Wampum Road in North Beaver Township and the Mahoningtown area of New Castle on Tuesday evening. Handheld and truck-mounted units will be used to conduct the spraying. There will be no aerial spraying. Clarke Environmental Mosquito of Roselle, Ill., will do the work.
Mahoning Valley housing
COLUMBUS -- The Mahoning Valley is set to receive $2.61 million in state grants to maintain, improve and expand housing for low- and moderate-income residents.
Girard and Columbiana County will each receive $555,000, and East Palestine, Campbell and Mahoning County will each receive $500,000. The grants are from the Ohio Department of Development.
A total of $35.6 million was awarded to 70 communities across the state.
Historical markers
CANFIELD -- Historical markers are set to be installed at the Old North Cemetery and the site of the first courthouse in Mahoning County. Canfield was the Mahoning County seat from 1846-1876.
Some of the tombstones date to the early 1800s.
The markers, which are privately funded, will be dedicated by the Canfield Historical Society on Oct. 11.
Butterfly trail
PORTERSVILLE, Pa. -- A new native plant butterfly trail is being dedicated by the Moraine Preservation Fund.
A Victorian luncheon will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at McDanel's Launch, North Shore, Moraine State Park.
Donations are $50 or more per person.

Drug arrests in raid
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two arrests were made Thursday night at 596 Cohasset Drive when members of the vice squad entered the house with a search warrant.
Allan L. Underwood, 23, of West Lucius Avenue was arrested on charges of possession of cocaine and possession of drug abuse paraphernalia (scale).
Coretta Burch, 30, of West Avondale Avenue was charged with possession of suspected marijuana.
Police said they found a plastic bag of suspected crack cocaine near Underwood and a bag of suspected marijuana on Burch's lap.
Stop leads to charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- A traffic stop at 12:20 a.m. today resulted in the arrest of Shaun Davis, 20, of New Road, Austintown, on charges of aggravated trafficking in cocaine and possession of marijuana.
Police pursued Davis over several streets on the South Side after he failed to signal a turn onto Hudson Avenue.
Police confiscated a bag with packaged-for-sale suspected powdered cocaine, a large bag of suspected marijuana and $1,008, reports show.
