West Branch-Salemparking alert
BELOIT -- Parking for tonight's Salem-West Branch high school football game will be in all lots at the high school.
Personnel will direct the parking and after the game when leaving, cars parked in the north lot will be directed north towards Beloit and the south lot will be directed south towards U.S. route 62.
Sharon fans raise$20,000 for charity
HARTFORD -- Sharon Speedway and its fans raised $20,000 to donate to Victory Junction Gang Camp, the retreat for seriously ill children and their families in Randleman, N.C., founded by NASCAR Winston Cup driver Kyle Petty, his wife, Pattie and actor Paul Newman.
On Aug. 16, Sharon Speedway held an autograph session with Petty, Ken Schrader and Sharon Speedway co-owner Dave Blaney as a fundraiser for the camp. Fans making a $5 donation to Victory Junction were able to meet the three NASCAR drivers and get their autographs. Proceeds from the track's 50/50 drawing, merchandise sales and a portion of the track's earnings that night also were included in the donation.
Marathon offerson-line help
AKRON -- For all those interested in running the inaugural Road Runner Akron Marathon, Oct. 11, but know they can't run 26.2 miles and don't have four other people to join them to form a relay, help is online.
Interested runners can complete a form on www.akronmarathon.org to be paired with other interested runners.
Mercer's fallschedule begins
MERCER, Pa. -- The fall schedule at Mercer Raceway Park begins Saturday night with the running of "On Tour 2003" presented by Chevron East. The rain date is Sunday.
The unique event will couple the Triathlon Sprint Car Series with the Bicknell Racing Products Modified Tour, along with the New Castle School of Trades Sportsman Modifieds and Butterfield's Pub Stock Cars.
Pit gates open at 2:30 p.m. and grandstand gates open at 3:30. Hot laps are at approximately 5:15 p.m. and racing at 6.
Adult admission is $15. Students 6-15 are $7. Children five and under are free. The Family Pass is $33. Pit passes are $30.
Zebroski qualifies
AURORA -- John Zebroski of Brookfield has qualified for the U.S. Mid Amateur Championship, to be played at the Wilmington (Del.) Country Club, beginning Oct. 11.
Zebroski competed in a qualifier at Barrington Country Club. One hundred twenty golfers competed for six qualifying spots. Four players shot 1-under-par 71 and Zebroski tied for fifth with a 72.
This will be Zebroski's 16th USGA Championship.
Mario Elie hiredas Spurs' assistant
SAN ANTONIO -- Former Youngstown Pride and San Antonio Spurs player Mario Elie was hired as an assistant coach Thursday by the NBA champions. He replaces Mike Brown, who became the top assistant at Indiana.
He played with the Pride in 1990.

AKRON -- Kevin Nicholson hit his second solo homer with one out in the ninth inning Thursday night to give Altoona a 4-3 win over Akron and even their Eastern League playoff series at a game apiece.
