FUND-RAISER Second Chance plans dog walk event



The Four-Paws-A-Thon benefits abandoned and abused animals.
BOARDMAN -- Second Chance Animal Rescue will sponsor its third annual Four-Paws-A-Thon from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 13 at Chester Long Pavilion, Route 224, Boardman. Laurie Lehosky, WFMJ anchorwoman, is hostess.
Walk details
The schedule of events will be:
U9:30 to 10 a.m.: Registration at a cost of $15.
U10 to 11: Two-mile walk. Participants may walk all or part of the course.
U11 to 11:30: Dog-training demonstration.
U11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Various contests and prizes awarded for first, second and third places for biggest, smallest, best trick or talent, waggiest tail and owner-pet lookalike.
Prizes also will be awarded to the participant and pet with the most pledges. Participants should take pledge money with them to the event. Pledge forms may be obtained at offices of area veterinarians and at Pet Smart and Pet Supplies Plus, both in Boardman.
Each entrant will receive a doggie goodie bag. And there will be light refreshments for sale.
All proceeds will benefit Second Chance, a nonprofit organization that provides care for abandoned and abused animals. Second Chance operates an adoption program and promotes spaying and neutering of animals.
Requirements
Mandatory requirements for participants:
UProof of rabies vaccination and veterinarian's name for all dogs.
UAll pets must be on leashes (no retractable).
UFemale dogs in any stage of heat will not be permitted to walk the route.
UIndividuals may walk more than one dog, provided each is registered and leashed.
UOwners must clean up after their dogs.
Second Chance reserves the right to refuse entry to any dog that may be hazardous to other participants or whose physical condition is in jeopardy before or during the walk.
