E. Palestine cross country race is Saturday
EAST PALESTINE -- Athletes representing 18 schools will compete in the East Palestine-Rotary Invitational cross country meet.
A middle school girls run is scheduled for 10 a.m. and will be followed by a middle school boys race at 10:30, girls varsity at 11 and boys varsity at 11:45.
Veteran distance runner Brittany Durkin of Boardman (19:51), two-time defending champ, will be the athlete to beat in the girls race.
Challenging will be Boardman's Jessica Moore, Poland's Colleen Moran, Lisbon's Lindsay Brickner, Leetonia's Melissa DiPanfilio, Salem's Diedra Clary and Struthers' Terri George.
A tough field is entered in the boys race that includes Boardman's Jim Hlebak, Dave Haushalter and Matt Jones; Howland's Vinny Freedman, Ryan Trapp and Chuck Holley; Cardinal Mooney's Collin Durina; East Palestine's Corey Chick; Leetonia's Sean Hulburt; Struthers' Dan McClure; Salem's Patrick Gorby and Aimon Scullion and Lordstown's James Rook.
Schools entered are Western Reserve, Boardman, Cardinal Mooney, Columbiana, East Liverpool, East Palestine, Girard, Howland, Leetonia, Lisbon, Lordstown, Niles, Poland, Salem, Struthers, United, Warren JFK and Waterloo.
