Authorities prove state trooper was drunk, speeding when he crashed

BUTLER, Pa. (AP) -- A Pennsylvania state trooper who died in a car crash was driving more than 100 miles an hour and was drunk at the time of the fatal crash, police said Friday.
State police investigating the death of Trooper Robert Bianchin, 32, of Harmony, said Bianchin's blood-alcohol level was 0.16 -- over the legal limit for drunken driving in Pennsylvania -- when he crashed Aug. 27 in his undercover police car. Authorities said the eight-year veteran was driving between 100 and 105 mph at the time of the crash on U.S. Route 422 in Connoquenessing Township, Butler County.
Bianchin lost control of the car, which struck an embankment, and he was thrown from the vehicle, police said.
Authorities said they have not yet determined where Bianchin -- who mostly worked undercover on drug investigations -- was driving to or from.
